Queensland Location Sound is Brisbane and Gold Coast’s dedicated production sound collective, co-founded by sound recordists Joel Hodgkinson and Seth Jackson.

We deliver location sound recording, mixing and audio supervision for national TVCs, scripted film & television drama, reality tv, branded content, documentaries, and commercial campaigns across South East Queensland, Australia-wide, and internationally.

Production Sound Mixer / Sound Recordist

Joel Hodgkinson

Co-founder of Queensland Location Sound, Joel Hodgkinson is one of South East Queensland’s most versatile and in-demand production sound mixers and sound recordists. Operating primarily across Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and Queensland, Joel combines high-end technical RF engineering with a modern, agile workflow tailored for both premium scripted drama and large-scale broadcast productions.

Emerging as a premier HOD sound recordist for Australian drama, Joel recently headed the sound department on major flagship series, including Black Snow (Season 3: Brothers Keeper) for Goalpost Pictures / Stan, and the Sundance-selected Fing! for Story Bridge Films / Stan / Sky UK. Supported by a dedicated, purpose-built full drama sound vanand an ultra-nimble sound cart rig, he delivers fast turnarounds, pristine multitrack dialogue, and silent, low-footprint transitions between studio sets and rugged regional locations. His scripted drama pedigree also includes HOD sound mixer on Jim Henson’s The Portable Door (ASSG Best Sound Nominee) and SBS’s Homecoming Queens (ASSG & AACTA Nominated), alongside boom operation on major studio features such as Universal’s Ticket to Paradise and Legendary’s Godzilla vs. Kong.

On the unscripted front, Joel is an industry-recognized specialist in hostile RF environments and complex audio architecture. Serving as 2IC of Audio across six seasons of Australian Survivor (Endemol Shine Australia), he has engineered mission-critical, large-format wireless infrastructure for high-pressure Tribal Councils and multi-camera Challenges. His extensive RF systems engineering resume spans massive 30+ channel matrixed antenna-over-fiber and Dante networks for international hits, including The Amazing Race Australia, Dancing with the Stars USA, FBoy Island Australia, and five seasons of ITV’s UK I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!.

Holding a Bachelor of Music Technology from the Queensland Conservatorium and certified in Dante networking, Joel provides visiting interstate and local directors with unmatched technical composure, comprehensive client/agency IFB monitoring, and effortless communication from first rehearsal to wrap.

Sound Recordist

Seth Jackson

Co-founder of Queensland Location Sound, Seth Jackson is a premier Brisbane and Gold Coast-based sound recordist with over fifteen years of experience across major commercial TVCs, global streaming originals, and high-stakes reality television. Holding a Bachelor of Music Technology from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, he combines elite technical audio engineering with an unflappable presence on fast-moving sets across South East Queensland and beyond.

Seth is widely regarded as a go-to recordist for solo TVC campaigns in Brisbane and the Gold Coast, having captured location audio for major national and international brands including Qantas, Uber Eats, NRMA, NAB, Toyota, Bunnings, Woolworths, and Bombay Sapphire. Beyond commercial sets, his international documentary and streaming work includes location sound for Netflix’s Somebody Feed Phil, alongside major long-form feature and episodic projects filmed throughout Queensland.

Equally trusted in demanding field and ENG environments, Seth has built an extensive broadcast resume. His credits feature five seasons as a core sound recordist on Australian Survivor, as well as high-turnaround ENG coverage for the UK I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! Coming Out Show. Operating seamlessly across Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and regional QLD, Seth delivers broadcast-grade multitrack mixing, complex RF coordination, and low-latency agency IFB monitoring for visiting interstate and international production teams.
